Hello Alberta Innovation Community!
I am happy to turn this week’s Note to Technology Alberta’s newest team member – Anya. Thanks to our Advanced Technology Centre neighbours, and all innovation community members who have come by to welcome her in-person and on-line – and have already started idea-generation on community projects. Special Shout-outs to Josh Lau and Hubert Lau of TrustBIX; Mehadi Sayed of Clinisys; team members of NRC-IRAP; Jennifer Lam of Discover Coding; Tim Carwell of CommAlert; Harlee Courtepatte of Agile; team members of Alberta Innovates; and Ahmad Jawad of DOCEO.AI and ERPBC.
Over to you Anya,
Gail J. Powley, P.Eng
President, Technology Alberta
I’m Anya Yahnishchak, B.Sc., and I’m excited to join Technology Alberta as your new Community Builder. My first two weeks have been nothing short of remarkable, and I’m deeply grateful to Gail, Debra and the entire community for their warm welcome and support.
My journey began with the Annual BBQ at the Edmonton Research Park, where I had the pleasure of meeting an inspiring crowd of entrepreneurs, academics, and community members. The sense of collaboration and shared purpose that defines this community is truly heartwarming.
One of the most surprising joys of these initial weeks has been discovering how truly interconnected our community is. Just last week, while chatting over coffee, I ran into an old friend who is already working with Technology Alberta! And, while researching for an ASTech Awards post, I discovered that I went to university with the daughter of a past award recipient. Even more serendipitous, my old friend now works with another ASTech Awards recipient from that same year! It’s a small world, and these connections only reinforce the sense of unity and shared purpose we have here.
To continue fostering these connections and getting to know you all better, We are launching Friendly Friday’s and would love for you to join us! This informal gathering will be a great opportunity to meet with the community and entrepreneurs at ATC, chat, have a coffee, and learn more about each other.

I’m excited about the future and eager to continue building on these connections, sharing stories, and contributing to the vibrant tapestry of innovation and community in Alberta. Together, we’re not just advancing technology—we’re creating a network of support and collaboration that makes us all stronger.
Looking forward to what we’ll achieve together!
