In this week’s Newsbyte, Technology Alberta Board Member and Business and Professional Development Programs Lead Debra Grieg, B.Comp Sci, MBA offers advice on how to have a successful job interview.
“We would all like to land our dream job, but interviews can be quite stressful. Having a learning mindset is a critical first step. When you are looking for that perfect career opportunity, this should become your full-time job. Don’t apply for every position. Pick a few that you are seriously interested in and make the effort to be successful.
1.Learn as much as you can about the company. Learn about their products, customers, employees, and history. Their website and social media accounts are good sources of information. Interviewers expect you to be passionate about the work they do.
2. Read the job description carefully and explain how you would be the best candidate for the position. Think about your education and experience, direct and indirect. Be able to explain how your skills are uniquely relevant to the position. Practice presenting your case for the position.
3.Write out your answers to commonly asked interview questions and practice your responses to them.
4.Watch videos like “How to Ace your Next Job Interview” for more tips. Practice – believe that it will be worth the effort!”
