Love it when a Plan, and even moreso a Community Comes Together!
Thank you all who have shared in the success, celebration, and purpose of the 35th Annual ASTech Awards – recognizing that we all have a role to play in the success of Alberta’s innovation sector. By Government, Academia, Industry, Entrepreneurs uniting to generate commercial and societal value through Science and Technology and Community Leadership – Alberta is creating a collective strength that is at an all-time high level.
We are pleased to announce our ASTech Award winners on our website and social media throughout the week – and happy to include the photo below of our winners including:

And the November 1 ASTech Awards put a face on all of these core organizations who are energizing our sector. With the diverse range of research and entrepreneurship success, it was exciting to see over 20 organizations contribute to the presentations or organizational success of the evening: starting off with:
- Janak Alford, DM Government of Alberta Technology and Innovation, Mike Mahon, Interim CEO, Alberta Innovates, Michele Evans, PrairiesCan, ASTech Advisory Members and Entrepreneurs: Rus Matichuk, Tom Ogaranko, Peter Kinash, Jeff LaFrenz, Lisa Carter, and more.
- Presenting across Categories: PTAC (Lauren and Soheil), ISAIC (Solange), RWI Synthetics (Katelyn), Red Deer Polytechnic (Tonya Wolfe) MacEwan University (Annette Trimbee), the Alberta Innovates team, UofC, UofA, and more.
- Highlights continue to be Regional Innovation – with special thanks to all the Regional Innovation Networksfor their support in raising the visibility of the innovation that is happening in every corner of the province. From Grande Prairie (My Breast Day) to Qinetiq (Medicine Hat), Weyerhauser (Drayton Valley), START (Lethbridge Polytechnic), Frog Lake First Nations (Vermillion Area), and Intelligent Sensing for Boreal Water Management, Athabasca University.
Of course thank you to the entire Technology Alberta team and our partners – that have continually shown that it doesn’t take a large team to make a difference, it takes a united one. Together we broke records again in our 3-year term with the ASTech Awards – with a sold out event of almost 500 attendees.
We have turned the phrase from “I Love it when a Plan Comes Together” to “I Love it when a Community Comes Together” – which I hear from the great feedback that we have already seen in our surveys. People see beyond any logistical imperfections, to the overall objective – by making visible the outstanding work across the province, we are all willing to get behind it – and help, celebrate, and support even more than ever before!
Thank you all in supporting innovation across Alberta, and in recognizing the great success we have all been contributing to over these 35 years – and as Minister Nate Glubish says “We are just getting started!”
Congratulations all – and more to come!
