Hello Alberta Innovation Community!
What is “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something.. purple?”
..well the ASTech Awards of course! The 35th Annual ASTech Awardsare only 12 days away – and we are looking forward to seeing a full-house of over 400 of Alberta’s scientists, entrepreneurs, government leaders and industry champions on Friday November 1, on Edmonton’s south-side at the Delta Hotels Conference Centre – with all dressed in their “business cocktail” finest.
So what is Old? and what is New?35 Years is not exactly old but it certainly represents many years of recognizing outstanding Alberta scientists, leaders, and entrepreneurs – many who will be joining us at the event – in addition to our 80 amazing new finalists. Also, when you celebrate achievements across all sectors and all regions like the ASTech Awards, we attract leaders from many outstanding organizations, such as Petroleum Technology Alliance of Canada. PTAC facilitates the use of new technologies by early adopter energy industry customers – and was founded by outgoing president Dr. Soheil Asgarpour. Both Soheil and incoming president,Lauren Savoie (formerly with Suncor) will be joining us- on Lauren’s very first day on the job. Can’t get much newer than that!
What is Borrowed? Thanks to a collaborative community, everyone is lending a hand with the ASTech Awards! From the many organizations who have helped advertise the event, to the MacEwan, Red Deer Polytechnic, and University of Alberta students across business, science, and technology fields who are helping our innovation community subject-matter-experts who are our volunteers with the ASTech conversation stations – on topics like Life Sciences, Cleantech, Digital Innovation, and more – to the experienced leaders like Dr. Lisa Carter of Athabasca University, who has tirelessly supported the capturing of the contributions of the last 35 years in our upcoming e-book, combined with the outstanding support of our sponsors and partners such as Alberta Innovates, Government of Alberta, PrairiesCan, MindFuel, and more.
So what is.. Purple.. Well what is not purple? Just kidding.. the ASTech Awards logo is a royal purple, so with over 20 award categories, and 80 finalists – there will certainly be some purple logos in the room.
So with that, please join us at the 35th Annual ASTech Awards this year everyone, where we will be sure to be celebrating with something old, something new, something borrowed, something purple – and you will not want to miss it!
See you soon everyone,
